Taipei is a wonderful city, a home to many iconic landmarks which makes me create the perfect shot for one of the best-loved skylines in Asia.

Little Taipei Skyline is an amazing model in the Miniature Architecture project in 2022. The inspiration comes from the Taipei Skyline in 2020 (臺北市天際線) which was the first skyline with the right scale of my design. Indeed, it gives me an opportunity for developing the model scale and adding more iconic buildings on the horizontal line.

My concept is to make the model complex colorful and blend the modern and classical iconic landmarks to enhance the beauty and elegance of Taipei city placed on a tiny horizontal skyline.

It is completed approximately with 280 Lego pieces, including:

  1. National Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall,
  2. Main Gate of National Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall,
  3. Taipei 101,
  4. LOHAS Park,
  5. Red House Theater,
  6. Taipei Nan Shan Plaza,
  7. President Enterprise Corporation Tower,
  8. Tao Zhu Yin Yuan (Agora Garden),
  9. Grand Hotel Taipei,
  10. Presidential Office Building.

Height: 5.0in / 127mm

Length: 4.9in / 124.46mm

Depth: 1.6in / 40.64mm

Total: 280 pcs

It would be a good guideline for people who want to travel to Taipei city. The buildings and architecture give me so much impressive about what Taipei is. As a designer, I tried to use every single Lego piece element to re-build well the architectural models for telling people about the architectural styles, culture, and history of Taipei city. Of course, we can travel at home and explore Taipei city without moving out.

The big challenge is the process to pick up the right elements to build very tiny buildings and also considering the forms of structure as to the real-life buildings.

My favorite part of the model is the "backdrop" created with two- elements of blues (as the sky) and an element of white (as the clouds) which interact well with the buildings on the skyline for creating a vivid feeling for the model. It's a great project for celebrating the Chinese Lunar New Year 2022 and putting the travel-at-home idea without moving out.

From the left to right of the Taipei skyline 2020, I have Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall, Cheng-En Gate (Taipei City Wall-North Gate), Lohas Park, The Grand Hotel, Cathay Landmark Tower, Taipei 101, and finally Tao Zhu Yin Yuan Tower.

The left-hand part of the cityscape employs forced perspective to feed an otherwise expensive part of Taipei on a traditional side. You have to use your imagination that you are walking on the beauty of the massive Memorial Hall. The main building of the Grand Hotel is one of the world's tallest Chinese classical buildings. It also contributed importantly to Chinese classical architecture.
Taipei 101 is also scaled-down and is standing in the middle of Cathay Landmark Tower and Tao Zhu Yin Yuan Tower. We can feel the bustle and dynamism of the city through the Business Centre of 101 and Cathay, and residential area. Particularly, Tao Zhu Yin Yuan, Carbon-absorbing green tower connects with green architecture concept design.
In Taipei, the 101 Tower is at the heart of the city and I chose to do the same here. With my design, it has two sides. One side is the classical landmarks and the other side is modern landmarks which would be represented what Taipei is. All are lined up on a horizontal line to show a very nice fully three-dimensional perspective in the Taipei skyline. Actually, both models, Taipei 101 also is built by using the same technique as the real one. Its design concept was incorporated Chinese Pagoda form and bamboo flowers.
